An Unreasonable Opportunity for a Senior Rails Engineer
I clearly remember the first time I heard about the work that Unreasonable was doing when I met one of the cofounders at a SOCAP Venture Meetup in Boulder in 2009. It was a small room of incredibly talented folks, driven to foster real societal change, doing much more than simply talking about what might be next for our nation and beyond.
I immediately loved the clarity of purpose and vision. The organization supports social entrepreneurs around the globe to ‘Be Unreasonable’ in their approach to business. Their namesake came from a George Bernard Shaw quote, “The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man (*or woman)”.
True to one of their core values, that Long Term > Short Term. We couldn’t agree more. With our decade long commitment to the Colorado startup ecosystem, and mission driven businesses around the country we certainly agreed that “emphasis on long-term value and impact was always better over short-term gains”.
To date, Unreasonable has helped more than 250 entrepreneurs, who have raised more than $6.5 billion, affect real change in building solutions for climate, global hunger, access to clean water, literacy initiatives, alternative energy and so much more. They have cultivated one of the most important and robust communities of social entrepreneurs in the world, along with more than 600 notable mentors such as Desmond Tutu, Ariana Huffington, Matt Mullenweg and many more.
Through the early years the founders of Unreasonable and our organization saw a lot of one another in that we were both in the former mission-driven Impact Hub coworking facility in Boulder, at rapid prototyping and community events they put on. We financially supported Unreasonable through donations back when they were just a 501c3, but always wanted to do more.
Now, more than a decade later, that opportunity has come to help make another dent in the universe (sorry, not sorry, we love that phrase and all that it encompasses).
In staying in touch with Paul Arterburn, Director of Engineering at Unreasonable since his early startup days, we agreed that the addition of a new Senior Rails Engineer to that team would be an awesome opportunity to finally work together professionally.
This remote engineering role is a truly unique opportunity to join Unreasonable Group, a stable, proven, impact-first (now for-profit) organization that’s backed by global brands like Accenture, Barclays, Nike, and Microsoft.
So many engineers these days say they are tired of ‘just making widgets’. This is an incredibly rare chance to be part of the 40-person organization (and a three person engineering team) that is the engine behind the impact. THIS is your opportunity to be part of a powerful group that trusts you to do your work like an adult, focus on your health and family above all else, and has a firm No Assholes rule.
